Run Streaking 101
Are you interested in starting a running streak or learning more about run streaking in general? Here’s anything and everything you’d ever want or need to know about run streaks...
What is a running streak?
The Streak Runners International, Inc. and United States Running Streak Association, Inc. provide the following definition: “run at least one mile (1.61 kilometers) within each calendar day. Running may occur on either the roads, a track, over hill and dale, or on a treadmill.” Check out their website for additional information.
Why start a running streak?
Our friend and experienced run streaker Jennifer Wilson put it perfectly when she told us about her run streak last year.
Here are five motivating reasons Jenn gave us to start a running streak:
It takes 21 days to create a habit. So why not create the habit of movement ... to be more active or become a runner.
Take the time to de-stress from your day. Running or walking at least one mile will allow you to process what has taken place and put you in a better mood.
Break through your mental barriers. Will it potentially be rainy, snowy, or freezing? Yes. But will you be thankful you broke down the mental barriers each day you destroyed your excuses? Yes!
You’ll learn to adapt to different situations. You will have to take account for the weather, earlier sunsets, and you will have to adapt your schedule to your goal of doing one mile each day.
Build in mini rewards into your streak! If you make it to day 15, go get your nails done… When we have something to look forward to, we are more likely to stick to our goals.
