Frequently Asked Questions
+ What is Weav Run?
Weav Run is music app for runners. We reengineer music using a groundbreaking technology called adaptive music. It enables a song’s beats per minute (bpm) to instantaneously adapt to match a runner’s steps per minute (spm). The integrity of the music remains intact throughout this process. In other words, an artist’s voice never sounds like it’s being sung by The Chipmunks.
Weav Run is powered by Weav Music, a technology that allows artists to specify how a song should evolve as the tempo of someone’s movement increases or decreases. With Weav Music, a song can become a completely different listening experience each time you listen to it based on your movement.
+ What's the difference between Weav Run and Spotify Run (or other similar apps)?
Similar apps rank songs in terms of their basic bpm range and try to group songs of a similar bpm to match the pace you want to run. None of those apps dynamically change the bpm of the song in real time, like Weav Run does.
With Weav Run, a song can speed up or slow down at any point in the song depending on your movement. It dynamically adapts to your movement—IN REAL TIME. Since we reengineer songs, they maintain the artistic vision of the artist, while sounding amazing at any pace, from a fast walk up to a full sprint.
Also, Spotify retired their running feature in early 2018.
+ What's so special about running in sync with music?
Running in sync with music is proven to release more endorphins (the happiness molecule), and decrease fatigue and pain.
Studies show that running in sync with music can:
- Boost performance by an extra 15-20%*
- Decrease your perception of effort by 10% (erasing pain & making running more pleasurable)
- Motivate you to get out the door and/or stick to your routine

+ What's the difference between cadence and pace?
Cadence (also called stride rate) is the number of times your feet strike the ground per minute. It is measured in ‘steps per minute.’ You’ll see it noted as steps/min or spm.
Pace is the number of minutes it takes to run a mile or kilometer. If you’re measuring miles, you’ll see pace noted as miles/min or miles per min. If you’re measuring kilometers, you’ll see pace noted as km/min or kilometers per min.
Additionally, stride is the length of a step or manner of taking steps in walking or running.
+ How can I find my baseline cadence?
Weav measures your cadence automatically. If you run for at least one mile with the app, you'll have a great sense for your average cadence. If you run for many miles, check the "Sessions" tab on the app to see your average cadence over the course of those runs.
For more about cadence and how to improve it, check out How To Improve Your Running Cadence.
+ Can I use my own music?
Unfortunately, no. Since, our engineers completely reengineer every song on the app to make it fully adaptable to your movements, you can’t use your own music on the app.
But don’t worry! We curated playlists including songs by world-class artists that are specifically designed to improve your running experience. Learn more about our technology, and how we reengineer songs so they don't sound like they’re playing in slow-motion or sung by the chipmunks here.
+ How do I listen to the new running playlists?
Open the 'Music' tab and select your desired playlist. Tap 'Start Run' and the music will play. You can either to listen to the playlist without running or start a session. Start a session by setting your location to 'OUTDOORS' or 'TREADMILL.' Then, select one of the two running modes 'FIXED TEMPO' or 'MATCH MY STRIDE.' Tap 'Next.' If you selected 'FIXED TEMPO' for your running mode, adjust your tempo and then hit 'Start.' Take off!
+ I want to listen to music without going for a run. Can I do this?
Yes. Open the 'Music' tab and select your desired playlist. Tap 'Start Run' and the music will play.
If you want to play around with the bpm/spm wheel, select the 'FIXED TEMPO' mode. If you want to see how the app works without actually running, select the 'MATCH MY STRIDE' mode and hold your phone and pretend run (move hands up and down as if you’re running). Move your arms faster and slower to hear the song adapt to your movements.
+ Can I skip songs?
Yes. To skip a song, tap "..." then "Do not play.” To listen again, just tap the song, and it will return to your queue.
+ Can I shuffle/repeat?
Yes. Simply toggle the shuffle/repeat button to the right of the song name.
+ Where should I have my phone while I'm running?
Keep your phone in your hand, on your runner’s belt, on your arm/armband, or in a tight pocket while running. It’s necessary that your phone is secure because the app uses your phone’s accelerometer to measure your cadence. Avoid loose bouncy places!
+ Can I use Weav Run on a treadmill?
Yes! All you have to do is specify your location type on the ‘Run’ tab as ‘TREADMILL.’ If you select this, it’s assumed that you’ll use the app without GPS tracking. You’ll be prompted to manually input the distance of your run at the end of your workout. Use this setting on a treadmill or inside running track. Note: If you run on an inside track and you have the Apple Watch, the watch will measure distance for you.
If you don’t want to hold your phone on the treadmill and you aren’t sure what steps/min to set the ‘FIXED TEMPO’ to, you can do this: First, select ‘TREADMILL’ location and ‘MATCH MY STRIDE’ mode. Then, while holding your iPhone, start running at your steady treadmill pace so that the app can detect your cadence. Once you’ve been running with the app for a few seconds, you can place your phone in the treadmill phone holder or beside the treadmill if you’re using wireless headphones. The app will continue to play music to match the last cadence detected; therefore, you don’t need to hold your iPhone.
+ Can I use Weav Run and other running apps simultaneously?
Yes! We are fully integrated with Strava (if you've synced Weav and Strava, your saved runs will automatically post to Strava), and Weav won't interfere with any other running apps you might want to use simultaneously.
Check out this post to see how to connect your Weav Run and Strava accounts.
+ When are new songs added to the app?
We add new adaptive songs every Monday, rain or shine! And our team is working really hard to grow the library as fast as possible, which includes expanding to include more genres of music. If you have a specific request (song or genre), don’t hesitate to email us at email@example.com and let us know. We’ll do our best to get your favorite songs on the app ASAP.
+ Do I have to be connected to data/WiFi/lte while running with Weav Run?
No, you don't need to be connected to WiFi to use the app. However, We strongly suggest that you set up the app and download songs via WiFi — not via data. If you download music with your data, you could use a significant amount of your data plan. The app doesn't use data as long as you've downloaded music before you head out for a run.
+ How do I start a run?
This comprehensive step-by-step guide will get you running with the app in no time.
But here’s a really quick how-to:
- Select your location type (TREADMILL or OUTDOORS).
- Pick one of the two running modes: MATCH MY STRIDE or FIXED TEMPO.
- Tap 'Next' to continue.
- Pick your playlist.
- Tap 'Let’s Go' to continue. Note: If you picked the Fixed Tempo mode, set your desired cadence.
- Tap 'Start' and take off!🏃♀️
+ I've downloaded the Apple Watch app, can I run just with my watch?
For now, you need to have your iPhone and watch on you to use Weav Run. This is because we completely reengineer each song to be ‘adaptive,’ and the songs are stored on your iPhone. But you can simply put your phone in your pocket, and you don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the run. You can change songs, start and stop, and save your run all from your watch.
+ My coach keeps telling me that I should be running at a certain steps per minute (spm or cadence), can you help me do that?
We sure can! Put the app on the 'FIXED TEMPO' mode, enter your desired spm, and take off! If you don't know your current cadence, you can use the 'MATCH MY STRIDE' mode, or simply look at the "Sessions" tab to see your average cadence.
+ Can I run with the app indoors?
Yes, you can! Keep in mind that we can't track your distance when you’re inside on your iPhone (the Apple Watch can though). But you can enter your distance manually on the app after each indoor run, and we’ll calculate your pace for you.
+ I don’t run, can I use Weav Run during my walks?
Absolutely! The music will adjust to your tempo, just like it does with running. Speed walk and the music speeds up. Slow down and the music follows you. Just make sure you're walking at a tempo of at least 100 steps per minute; any slower than that, and we're afraid our music may run away from you.
+ How do I stop a running session?
Click 'Stop.' Then, 'Save.' Don’t forget to share your run on social media with #weavrun!
+ Is Weav Run available for Android?
Not yet but we’re working on it. Sign up for our mailing list, and we’ll be in touch the second it’s available on Google Play.
